A little light entertainment...
« on: April 16, 2012, 10:39:07 PM »
Just a quick post to show my nieces lighthouse!

I was roped in to making the light bit as I have all the gadgets  :borg:  (and lots of ductape!)

The rest was made by my sister, mother and niece.

Well that's enough back story   :worthless:  So....

The windows.

The motor part... I used an old gearbox and motor ass'y from a dismantled kids glitterball. Been rattling around for years!

The lamp unit was made from a cardboard tube with a bullseye magnifier (From an overhead projector IIRC)
and a 3v battery pack with an old experimental 4 LED lamp unit containing a circuit for even running etc.

And the finished product.... Next to and taller than my niece  :)

And the vid....

Well, that's it. Took about a day in total. But I am poorly

Just thought I'd share  :)

What, no GID powder?

Nice work there Ralph, nieces are great aren't they? You get all the pleasure of watching them grow up without any of the mess and disruption....
Cheers!

Thanks fellas

Yeah Pete, she had a proper grin on her face when she went home on Sunday  :)

David,
It apparently went more along the lines of "stop pushing the switch, it's not a toy!"

Sister says she came home annoyed at the class for pushing the rotation switch on and off.
But got 5 merits (I'm going to assume that is a good thing?) and it stayed on display in the class room all day! I know she was generally happy though. Just protective  :wack:

Dek,
I will get there.... Just not able to drive at the mo'! Next week or so.... Still off work for possibly 3-5 weeks! Depends on if they find me some "light" duties?  When it gets to the time... Remind me about the lasers again :zap:

Ade,
Don't think I didn't think about it. Very nearly exchanged the wooden window frames (just visible in the completed pic, 1 on every corner of the glass) with GID acrylic rods. If it were a night school I probably would have  :borg:

you have the correct statement in there too.... Couldn't take more than a day or two of any of my nephew and nieces.... 4 of them all together. House is mental when they all descend! So peaceful when they leave  :med:
