Just finished listening to world news. Sounds and looks like London got hit with 6" of snow.

How you guys coping with all that snow?

Hey hey!!!

I'm alright Jack!

I took a drive up into the local hills and went for an hour and a half walk to the top of Moel Fammau (big hill near my house) and back.... only 5" on the hills 3-4" on the roads.... No worries :)

Tomorrow might be interesting though.... Got to drive the van 20 miles and fit doors in the snow!!

Some people panic,

it's not that bad.... Look

Nothing compared to what some get.... We're just never prepared for it

We're doing just great where we are, just a light dusting, and now it has almost all gone, it is nice to have a hill and mountain range on either side to keep it all away.

Glad you guys a coping with that white stuff.

What you got there we usally see in a quick over night snow fall. The one's that get us is when they call for 12" to 18" snow. The ones that get hit the worst are the people that live on the south east side of Lake Ontario. They sometimes get 2 to 3 feet of snow at once. What's really bad is when the wind blows at 30mph or more.

I think we should box all this white stuff up and sent it to the guys in Oz. They need the water and cold.  :D

Shortage of water in Oz never stopped them having a boat race.

All our local schools are shut and there's not even any snow on the roads today....

Bah, teachers, they're just the same as the kids, any excuse !!
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)

Nope.... No snow ball fights here... I'm injured  :(

Slipped and landed the best part of my 16 stone frame on the side of my left knee   .... I'm limping along like Long John Silver!   ::)

Still, pool down the pub tonight.... There might always be a snowball fight in the car park??

It's thawing already too !!! The kids have been in school and most of us have been to work.  I only did a bit this afternoon as the boss living on a steep hill, they couldn't get the vans out this morning, I just chilled out for a while  :med:   :)

Glad to here things aren't as bad as the cable news talking heads had on this morning sounded like we were going to have to airlift shovels and people to operate them to dig you out. But it did surprise me when they did mention it. Usually it's only when some twit signer/actor/politician gets caught in a comprising act that they they mention anything about the UK.  :bugeye:

I think the reason they have shown what has happened in the UK on US news, is because we normally have fairly mild of everything, split into 48 weeks rain, with 4 weeks sunshine for summer (most times sometimes less). So when something extraordinary happens, it is worldwide news.  :bugeye:

Isn't it nice to be classed as not worth talking about unless something drastic happens. ::)

Scott,

When I was in the gulf (many years ago), the temp dropped to about 70 to 75 degrees in the winter.
When we went to the outdoor cinema, we used to wear thick pullovers and wrap a blanket around ourselves.
The normal summer temp was around 110 to 120 in the shade. It is just a matter of temp differential.

40 degree drop is a lot.

As they said in TV journalism 101, all those many years ago! "if it bleeds it leads, and good news is no news." But the best one was " when a reporter from a local station said in the class "Never let the truth, get in the way of the story!"

6"F this morning 6:21am est 1" inch of new snow, and its going to warm up to the high 40'sF this weekend and rain. winter is so much fun

What I was truly shocked about...

When in early college I went to Hawaii for a month.

I was in shorts and a T-shirt. We got on the plane.. and like 23890237 hours later we got off in Hawaii... and I almost PEED MYSELF!!! It was fricking COLD!
I had left florida where it was 98 and ultra high humidity, and arrived in Hawaii where it was like 72 with a 15 MPH breeze and high humidity!

It was damn cold... but by the second day I was used to it.

perspective

Oh and yes.. we get some of those huge temp swings when cold fronts come through. brrrrr
