Rocker cover racers

Hi Folks
            Last year someone told me about rocker cover racing, wich is a daft way of using old engine rocker covers. So, being rather daft myself  i gave it a go and won, and yes there were others there,so not bad for a first attempt. Now in order to drum up a bit of real competition i thought some of you guys that live close to south Cheshire might be persuaded to have a go this year.
There are a few rules (about four i think), but the basic idea is to stick four wheels on a rocker cover,decorate in as daft a fashion as you can think of, and away you go.  No motive power is allowed just gravity on a track about 30ft long with a ramp at one end to get things rolling.  I would post some photos on here if i knew how, but when i read how to on another thread!! something about stick your pics in a bucket, stir in a load of silicone valley computer shorthand (being polite here), and bingo all is revealed.  If anyone is that interested i have managed to post some pics on www.model-engineer.co.uk under the name Magpie, and if you need any more info please send me a PM.

Hi Ralph
           "TIN" man indeed. As if i could afford TIN. His name is Rollover and he is made from best quality brass, ally, stainless,and any other nice bits of scrap i could find. I have no doubt that when you are introduced to him, he will shout at you for calling him "tin one"    Any rocker cover will do as long as it fits the rules----Max Length76cm-Width 22cm-Hight 25.5cm-Weight 4.6kg. There are a few more rules but they are the main ones. So you can spend a bit of recovery time thinking how to make yours .

Are 4x4 rocker covers allowed I have a Land Rover one

Hi Graz
           If it's no bigger than the sizes shown in my last post, it's OK. Only other rule is Wheels should have non metallic tyres,be no bigger than 6" dia.,and not extend beyond the front of the cover.  This is how big it should be------> or is that a fish of some sort.

Hi folks
           Just been told i can post pics strait from my computer, and do'nt have to put them in a bucket first Well here goes a try.
If you folk are interested i can show more pics of the robots workings. That is the only one that does anything other than roll down the track.  Also for anyone interested ,there are two race meets comming up in September, both in south Cheshire.

I don't recall exactly what I had to do to get it to work. I do know that I pulled a few hairs out before I got it. First I get hold of the file name for the video and put it in the browser to make sure that it will actually play at u-tube. I have a post hidden away that I try the file out in before I release it to the masses. Basically I just compare the file name with some video's that are known to work and play around until it works. Strangely what works on one forum may not work on another forum. I hope that's as clear as mud now Ralph.

If I haven't got the youtube code. (Cos, it's not my vid). I right click on the playing video and, " Copy embed html".

Click on youtube icon, above.........youtube][/youtube

Paste into icon.......  youtube]<iframe width="640" height="360" src="

Delete all before and after the youtube code.......   

     

And, it works. Mostly........

Anyhoo - the problem is youtube has bought the domain "youtu.be" (i.e. youtu, in belgium) and are using it for short tags. And the "youtube" plugin for SMF doesn't  understand those shorter links. So you get #invalid youtube link# instead of an embedded video.

I should probably have a go at fixing it, given it's the sort of thing I'm supposed to be able to do for my day job...
