Gents,

It has been a pleasure to see and watch all your visuals while you were at Harrogate. It was almost like being there, except for no outside shots and the smell of burning coal and well cooked steam oil. But you have all done a great job in getting the atmosphere across.

I think we all have to admit that we are only amateurs when you see what these artisans get up to. It boggles the mind thinking what they will come up with for next year. Also what you have to realise is that most of these creations aren't just a couple of hours a night for a few months. Some must have taken almost a lifetime to build. From original conception, making up the drawings, casting the bits and thousands upon thousands of hours over uncountable years, burning the midnight oil to machine up the latest bit that has been designed or cast, and for what?

A little bit of the limelight for this year only, and to give us all so much enjoyment in seeing their creations.

These are truly, people on a mission, and are some of the most gifted, helpful and unassuming people you would ever want to meet. They have oil and iron filings flowing thru their veins.

We left at about 3.30 and I was all ready with the camera, normally we spend an extra half an hour to get 150 yds to the car looking at the stuff outside, but it was just starting to spit with rain and I did not see or smell a single engine so no pictures.
Hear is one I took last time ,it's a scratch and smell,  if you print it out and scratch it , you can smell the anthrasite when you watch the vid

The guy sat on his traction engine is my old mate Eddie - a clever bloke. All of his engines are free-lance and made off the cuff! His workshop is an amazing place - some of his machinery was still powered by a line shaft when I visited many moons ago! That engine did have proper wheels etc originally but he put those on for a more comfortable ride. Everything is very nicely proportioned and he didn't use many castings, if any, most of the stuff you see is fabricated by him.

The show was great, just sad it's over for another year  :(

Ralph,

Nice video. Ever think of videography as a occupation. Excellent takes.

I have to say you Britts are into your model building. Makes me sad to see that so few over here are into this type of model building.

Thanks to you who went and toke the time to take those nice picturres and present them here for the world to see.

Regards,
Bernd

Wow, those are some impressive pictures (&vids) from all of you. Thanks so much! It looks a lot like our Cabin Fever Expo we have here in the states... Without the large steamers outside though. A lot of fun.

Bernd... we have to get over there.

Have to agree whole heartly with that.

I wish there were more people interested in the traction engines over here, but sadly that'll never happen. :(

Met a few of the regulars, Circlip, Julian and a few others who's names escape me, busy on Friday and Saturday, Sunday slacked off a bit but still brisk.

I took some pics on Sunday morning before the show opened,so less bodies about.

I'll go thru later and put captions on if I can remember what they were, there were other models that are not included in the pics, a lot of 7 1/4" gauge loco's in the middle opposite our stand and quite a few traction engines outside.

Happy you like the video Gents, I try.... Still think I should have taken a bit more!  Too busy chatting away as the time ran out... Didn't leave till closing

David D,
Dusting stopping capabilities!!!  :bugeye:  I've never had those before!

Peter,
I used my Canon IXUS 750, no flash and auto setting for the regular shots, digital macro for the close ups. Macro on the video for closeups.
It records video at 60Fps... Usually quite good   Missing things.... I didn't see that tank!!

A slight oddity happened while I was making this video.... I put in the first part of the vandergraph' and then the second bit with the chuckling gent (Made me laugh when I saw him ) Then I tried to put in another shot of the generator.... But the flash seems to have slipped off the original film :jaw: It doesn't show anymore? So the only place that flash is visible is on the video I have made there!!!???  (Very twilight zone!!)

Eric 'n' Bernd,

If you guys get over here your going to have pretty busy schedules!!  Not to mention a bit of an eye opener at home and 'shop size  ::)
It would be fun though! You'd obviously have to shedule around a show too!!

JS,
You spoke to me(Big red haired one) and Dave (CC Slightly shorter older fella)  A little bit about being "over weight" on the way to the show!! Still, bet you get to speak to some crowd when your at a show that big and long?
Your link is not cooperating by the way.... Just takes me to the main photobucket page asking me to sign in? (this works if I want to see my own photo's!! )

Ralph, that is something which rarely happens, in this household......
The mighty duster, pausing during it`s morning routine of beating everything in sight.......

Try this, still learning Photobucket, let me know if it's still broken.

Problem is you can often see your own page because of cookies even if the link is wrong, others can't.
The last 3 or 4 pics are not from the show, gotta learn about folders.

Thanks for all the pics in this thread guys!!

I did manage to get to the show on Friday but only had enough time to do the trade stands. SWMBO insisted that I be back down south by 17:30 so we could go and stay in a hotel for a wedding the next day. Still cant work out why as it was only 50 miles away from us!! Still I did manage to pick a much meeded ER32 collect chuck and a set not so much needed rotary table with all the trimings..along with a few other bits 'n pieces....

In all 12 hours driving for 1.5 hours at the show...not great...next year Harrogate will be a non-negotiable date in my diary.

Thanks again chaps!

Re. what me, Serveta, & Crew Cab + Stew (?) were discussing re Photobucket.

That's spot on David, many thanks    and yes it does make sense  :med:

For those not at Harrogate we were chatting about keeping a photobucket account private (except for the links we use in posts),
