Printer Rod Material
« on: September 13, 2012, 01:50:59 AM »
Our Canon printer has just died.  So I had to take it to bits to see if there was anything that could be salvaged, didn't I?
Well, apart from the usual collection of springs, small motors, delrin gears etc there are (so far!) two very nicely finished pieces of steel rod.  One bit is 8.0 mm diameter, the other is 11.0mm diameter.  I haven't measured them with a mic yet, just a vernier, but the diameters appear to be ground.
My questions are
1/ Does anyone have any idea what the material is, other than "steel"?
2/ Does anyone have any idea how the material machines?
cheers
Bill

Hi Bill,

I have no idea what the material is, but the printer rods I have tried machine beautifully.

For that reason I now collect dead printers!
