hi all this is a haw to on making a lense for a dti my way this dti belongs to john bubelboost i piced this up from his on saterday in all the dti is in good order it just needed a new lense the furst thing i did was to brush the dile to remove as much of the loos muck as posibel then i kleend the lens with coten buds and spit DO NOT USE ANY KEMIKEL CLENERS EVEN SOPY WATER CAN REMOVE THE PRINT the next thing wat to make the lense i used acrilik for this i needed sumthing to form the dome for the lense this was dun by the use of a spray can and a mini jam jar i warmd up the plastick till it became soft then plast it over the end of the spray can then with the jam jar prest on to the plastick once formd i rufely cut the shape out then cuverd bothe fases with tape then started to shape the new lens to fit i removed the besel from the dti as to ade the fiting of the lense to do this i had to remove the retaning ring at the back of the clock to do this ther is a noch cut out of the besel on the back wher you put a pin in and lift out the clip  once all was dun refited the besel and gave the new lense a polish   right pics

I made some by cutting a flat disc slightly bigger than the bezel hole, and pressing them in at the centre to force them into a dome shape.

After 4 years of use the 1" DI I use on my mini lathe has developed a cracked crystal  ( don't know how that could possibly happen, lol)   this is just what I needed.   :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

Nice repair.
I was given a intrepid test indicator a few years ago. It was missing the lense. I did not have any plastic stock, so I took a small plastic box for the donor material and turn the disc to size and then use a very small amount of glue to keep it fixed. I sure wish I had seen your lense bending technique before that was a very slick idea. It make it look original. Mine looks like it been repaired.  :doh:

Nice job bob.i think i have a few that need new lenses in them.i will rake them out for you.and drop them off at the weekend.i was going to chuck  them out.but i guess you can make good use of them,got some other junk for you as well,went to the skipsto dump some rubbish,and came back with more than i went with,it all look like it has been made by an apprentice as test projects,center
gauge.tool makers vice,machining jacks,ect.just surface rust on them

For some reason I missed this one. Now that I have found it I can't pass by without saying how clever you are to fix it up better than new at little cost. You always seem to come up with a way to fix something that most of us would pass by. Thanks for sharing that with us.

I had a visit from Bob today (krv3000)
He brought my DTI back complete with its new face  :beer: :beer: :beer:
The repair on the clock is first class
But more than that , He has made a nice fitted case for it  :bugeye: :bugeye: :bugeye: :bugeye:
This is something i will always treasure

thanks all for the coments im glad you like it john and rob you no if thers out you wont fixing juts let me no i enjoy seeing once condemd tools up and working a gane and not left on a shelf to go rusty if any of the members  that have old dti.s or the like that they dont wont you can send them to me
