New gaff...
« on: December 17, 2012, 08:29:27 AM »
Well some limited progress in the new place.

Only been in 6 months but as usual perennially short of free time and cash...

Start

Painted floor (sorry, crap pic)

New racking... lathe is now in behind there where the wooden bench is in this pic

Yours truly, being very serious, camping in the van on a dive trip.

New addition last weekend, new welding bench and brought some of the welders over.

Much to do yet, lathe is in it's home but need to finish putting it together... list of "stuff to do" as long as your arm as usual... At least it's looking something close to in order now though...

Cheers Rob, getting there slowly.

Yeah OMS wing, bargain bucket twin 12s, one apex reg, one sherwood first stage with a scubapro 2nd...

Can't wait to get back in the water. Ongoing project is a homebuilt rebreather :)

Yep.

It's a big project really, no massive bits just a fair few medium sized ones.

PPO2 displayed by a 16x2 LCD display driven by an atmega microcontroller, this on wrist in a little ally box (1atm housing) hopefully getting an ex cave diver miller at one of our subbies to make this bit

As for the unit itself, well it will be an mCCR, so a needle valve to allow in 0-1 l/min of O2 (surface), so the other project is a gas block... O2 and air/trimix inputs... one output... the O2 either by manual addition and needle... the diluent by manual add (just BCD inflator buttons)... this is just a delrin block with a load of drillings and tappings in it.

All that lot will be transferable. I'm not 100% convinced what I'm building for the rest of it yet.
Either a fairly normal "canister" type design like the ISC megaladon, or a converted soviet IDA-71. The meg copy will be superior in technical terms but the IDA more compact and streamlined for recreational diving. Still whichever way I go with it I'll need the bits above.

I definitely concur about the Oban pissup! I'm crewing on my mates boat on a trip up there over easter for 4 days #hic#

Hi Chris,
Yes, a bit chilly in York today.  Not so much the body temp, but touching the cold metal soon loses it's appeal!

In your pic of the welding bench and welders there is a chuck on the bench, and next to it some sort of steady. Do you know what the steady is from?

Thanks,
John

I have no idea!

It looks like it may work as a travelling steady on my denham but no idea when I'd get round to making the necessary mods to it.

Hi The steady also looks like it could be off Harrison lathe L5? maybe , there are two styles of steady for the L5 lathes and one of them looks like this, if you wanted to check in more detail there are normally some listed on Ebay .
