Hi Guys

A little something for the rail buffs out there.

Study In Steel – 1935 London Midland & Scottish Railway – Watch the “Princess Arthur of Connaught” being built

[ Invalid YouTube link ]

Produced by The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). They take us into the Crewe workshops to watch a Princess Royal Class steam locomotive being built. The locomotive seen during the film is no. 6207 and was named “Princess Arthur of Connaught”.

Hope you enjoy

Cheers

Wow what a video

I was born and raised and still live in Crewe and a lot of my relatives worked in the loco works, I've watched it through a couple of times to see if I can spot any of them. And the shots of the forge are particularly memory raising, as I was born in "Forge street" that backed onto the works forge in my Granmothers house, and some of my early memories are of hearing and fealing the ground shake as the drop hammers did their work.

It makes you feal proud when you see what your town was once capable of doing.

Thanks for showing Don

superb vid.... thank you.. makes me proud to be English. I actually remember steam trains coming through my suburb, the station was near a public swimming   pool i used to go to as a kid, i remember the sound and the smell.

I didn't realize that this would appeal to the diapper crowd but I am glad they enjoyed it as well as yourself.

I guess I didn't realize that you still see this in your work enviroment sometimes.

Thanks for those pictures Rob.

Stew
I knew that there were several members from Crewe or close to there.

I fully agree with you on that. I have first hand experience with that. I better not get started on that or I'll get carried away with it. Thanks for the nice comments Stew.

Thanks Joe for adding those links. If anyone follows those links there is so much more information availible. Just be sure that you pack a lunch and take a thermos with you.

Anthony
Thanks Anthony for the nice comments. Glad that it brought back some pleasent memories from years ago.

Thanks to all for your comments. I know when I watch something like this it makes me think how hard they worked to put the loaf of bread on the table back then.

dsquire - "start 'em young" is my theory. I've been required to watch it a few more times now, very happily! Thanks very much for posting it.

Just for your little one and her friends I found this one that she might like as well. As you will see when you watch it there are lots more of "Thomas The Tank" there as well. Hope that you both enjoy.

PS: I guess since the kids watched the adults version it will be OK for the adults to watch the kids version. Just don't get caught.
