Fred, I'm 35 miles north of you, and we have about 1/4". I've just been watching the kids over the road trying to get enough together for a snowball. We rarely seem to get much; a snowman is a rare sight. I'm sure my Dad put the kibosh on it when he built us kids a wooden sledge in the mid-1950s; it ended up being fitted with wheels.

But there was lying snow ----on Armistice Sunday.
If some body gets the records out, there were two very experienced Border shepherds killed in a mid October blizzard.

The first civilian mountain rescue teams came out of this event. Hmm, I was a founder member of the first team.

Winter is nothing new.

This was my workshop on saturday morning. Two hours of warming with my 2kw fan heater had the temp up to 18c so that was warm enough for meto start. Another 1/2 hour it was up to 20c, just right. :med:

Cheers Dek.

P.S. Snowed again today for most of the day.

Too right lads   , the driving is a joke , like the cartoon says one snowflake and its panic stations all round  :palm: :palm: , even in normal conditions there seems to be more and more people driving along main roads at 40-45MPH  :loco: :loco: , I am in a diesel Landrover defender doing top speed of 55mph lol and constantly having to overtake people  :bang: :bang: :bang:  ....................... what really bugs me is when I am stuck behind these people  and people come behind me they blame it on a Landrover going slow
Anyway , its makes no difference if there is snow or not to the Landrover  :) :)

I absolutely love it! Just wish they'd stop gritting/ploughing.

Then again, I have a 300hp turbocharged 4wd rally car to drive around in... I do feel sorry for my colleague in his MX5.

I'm sitting very cosy. Perhaps doing a bit of snow clearing from time to time but my children have phoned to see that we are all right. Our neighbours have phoned  or dropped in. Thank you Christine for the milk- that didn't get through to the factory in Ponteland. You'll make up the loss for the production but thank you for sending your staff home. Again, thanks to the Gas people who came in less than an hour to  put in a new blower to our heater having spent hours searching for parts- for two old people.

Thanks to our son who put the snow tyres on the Mini Cooper. Hope we don't have to risk coming out of a long, uncleared cul de sac.

Thank you to our son in law who risked his neck to get into the hospital to put a series of Stents in people that were very unlucky to need help in weather like this. He's given up his garage space-to give some one storage when the building work  was stopped because of the weather.

Thank you to the unknown driver who brought enough loaves to the local supermarket-- and another for the Sunday Times. Thank you to the postie who brought me a rather damp letter to remind me that my pension cheque is in the bank- and the thoughts that -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have never had to work-----------------------------------------------for the last 27 years.

So dream on- for a little while but remember that I don't have to get up. You do.

I'm one of the few Canadians that actually likes winter.

Here's a part of my commute from this morning... yes, seriously. :)  Most of it looks about the same.

Some higher resolution ones here:

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm185/sparky961/20130122_082859_zps48e32158.jpg

I'm sure I can be outdone, as this really isn't much snow - even for here.  I'm just happy to finally see some real Winter weather instead of just the cold, damp, dark days that go with it.

There's a mountain (well, big hill really) about 20 kms from me that sometimes has snow on it.
That close enough for me.

Tumutbound's big hill is about 200km from me and that's close enough.

But we sometimes get snow here, even in summer. One year we had a white xmas (and that's in the middle of summer).

Right now, it is in the mid 30's - you could cook eggs in your hat.

Sparky

Love those pitcures. They bring back a lot of memories. My daily commute was very similar to that for a number of years. I used to love the snow when I could get out with the snow mobile. Now I just stay in where it's warm and let my son and grandaughters have all the fun if we get enough snow to get them out of the garage. Some years they end up having to go up to Timmins or Sault St. Marie so they can get enough snow to have a good run.

What part of South Western Ontario are you in? I'm guessing possibly North of Toronto, maybe oround Orangeville.

Have fun in the snow but stay out of the ditches.

Cheers

Still no snow to speak of, here. About 3/4" came down two nights ago, but nearly all disappeared next day. My brother tells me he still has the sledge Dad built, so its magic must still be working.
