Left overs from a Southbend Lathe
« on: March 07, 2009, 12:36:03 PM »
If you've been following my Index Head post you know that I'm using the head stock from what I think is a Southbend lathe.

Well I still have a few parts left over that I came up with some ideas for.

First a pick of what's left over. A lathe bed, a saddle, a motor pulley and a motor mounting base.

After looking the parts over I took some time out to see if any ideas would pop up. A couple did surface. One, I can use the lead screws from the cross slide and top slide for a future tool cutter grinder project. Ok, so what else is in the cross slide, Ah gears.

Then it hit me. A worm and wheel. I can make a rotory table with that. The worm and wheel have a 1:36 ratio. So out came the worm and wheel.

Anybody have any ideas for the rest of the parts? I know I can use the motor mount and pulley. So that leaves the cast iron cross slide and the lathe bed.
