Hello from Surrey, UK
« on: June 19, 2013, 12:15:12 PM »
Hi everyone.
Since retiring as research director of an instrumentation company I have been steadily equipping a workshop and teaching myself welding and turning. My main hobby is collecting and shooting antique rifles so I have to make small parts and reloading equipment for myself. I also run the cowboy action shooting section of my shooting club so I spend some time making steel reactive targets of various types. I have been looking for other things to make using my new skills. Not really interested in steam engines etc but quite fancy a pulse jet build.
At present my workshop is half of a double garage but the wife refuses to give up her half so I plan to build one in the garden at some time.

Testing Machines Inc, based in New York with plants in the UK, France, Holland, Sweden and China. What with visiting the factories and the worldwide agency network I was hardly ever home so had no time for hobbies.

Hi Perry

Welcome to the collective :borg:

A pulse jet would be very cool to build. Since you like to shoot, you could always build a modern air gun!

Hi Perry and welcome!

I built several experimental valveless pulsejets back in my, ahem, more adventurous days, and ran a simple fan turbine off of one of them.   :smart: :zap:

I'm still alive and no burns, so I wish you the same good luck.  :loco:  Hearing protection is a must!
I love it when a Plan B comes together!

Hi Perry and welcome aboard.

Seeing your post about the wife retaining half your workshop - beware of wet cars in winter causing condensation on your new toys. It's a classic problem.

Hi Perry,

Welcome to this excellent Forum.

Model making is by no means limited to steam engines or anything like. The only limit is your imagination. For instance, since in Greece shooting anything but a 12 gauge is very illegal, I have turned my modelling skills in making moder firearms.

Hi Perry,

Like you I needed more room than a two car garage.
I extended by another 60 foot on the end of it ... guess what, I still haven't got enough room! you just expand to fill what you have.
