Yet another excellent video John :-)

The quality is superb, good editing keeps it interesting and the  odd touches of humour  are great.( nearly p'ed myselfnat you in the  cyberman mask :-) )

Your decision to include the mistakes (while removing any examples of poor practice) is absolutely correct in my view.

Honestly, they are some of the best machining videos on YouTube.

Keep up the good work

:-)

Hi there, John,

I agree with all Bill wrote.  I'm following your videos of this project (and others) with great interest.

You said this one was an experimental machining.  Does that mean it won't necessarily be complete?  Do you intend to machine the topside of the 'proper job' casting around the mounting slots?

I have one of the little machine vices that Beeston Myfords sold to go with their vertical slides - the upper side of the mounting slots had too much draft angle to allow the securing nuts to sit level so I spot-faced them a bit bigger than a 5/16" BSF washer.
Best regards,

Pete W.

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, you haven't seen the latest design change-note!

Thanks for the kind words
The top of the mounting slots will be spot faced
I will be fully machining this casting until it is finished or a bugger it up

Another quality Video John  , as the lads say some of the best machining vids on Youtube, I also think you do the right thing leaving in the odd mistake or error as this is important for others to learn from too.
Keep up the good work.........you might be in for an oscar this year

  Cheers Mick

These videos are epic John, as a complete novice I'm learning just how versatile a lathe can be.

Tools: Boxford CSB lathe, Chester 20v mill, Portamig 185. Lots of ideas, No motivation.

I like seeing the real thing! Mistakes are not for sissies.

Neither is casting machining or video recording, for that matter!

Bravo, John. :dremel:
I love it when a Plan B comes together!

John

I know that no casting is shown on the ( good as usual instalment ) but how do you control the hydrogen in the melt , I have read that a stirring stick of willow helps due to the salacitic acid content in the bark , or do you use the commercially attainable tablets
