Mj189 Live centre
« on: September 27, 2013, 04:09:22 AM »
Daft b*gger that I am, I assumed a live centre for an Emcomat C0 would fit my MJ189 - everyone says the MJ is a clone of t'other one.  So away went my money, and back came a lovely little live centre.  Complete with its 10.0mm shaft.  A pity really, because the hole in my tailstock is 10.35mm.

Since the Royal Mail charged considerably more than the item cost (>15 quid cv 11 quid) there's no way I can afford to return it and try to get a "right" one sent out to Thailand.

What suggestions can you make?

Geoff

Can you turn up an adapter? Don't these lathe's tailstocks have a taper bore? If they do, an adapter just moves the center a little forward, to allow enough "meat" in the adapter.

If it's a straight bore, I guess you could turn down the center shaft a little and then press fit on a sleeve turned back up to what is required.
I love it when a Plan B comes together!
