As some of you may know I have two lathes. The Red Lathe and an old unidentified one I call the Rufold.
Recently I had reason to use the Rufold and noticed that the three jaw chuck seemed particularly wobbly.
Closer examination revealed that there was no register on the backplate; just the thread. Looking at the other bits that came with it (Backplate, four-jaw, catchplates) also revealed that while the four jaw had a register bore, it was too big. And the other two had no register bore at all.
So I need to make new backplates for all these items.
So, if you buy some old lathe from a dark cellar, as I did, check the backplates as soon as you get it home.
