Hello from Northern Norway.
« on: October 29, 2013, 06:54:40 PM »
Hi. Been lurking around for a year now, I guess its time to say hello.
I live well above the Arctic cirkle and I have a small shop at home and does some gun work and tools, prototypes and
general repair on my leisure time. Slowly drifting into steam engines, so I must build a foundry, Right

Anyway, hello to all of you.

Welcome aboard. That must be quite a challenging environment to set up a workshop!

Thanks for the kind welcomes.
Pekka.
The town is west of Narvik, and there is alot of rivers and lakes with exellent fly fishing opportunites, salmon, trout and arctic char.

Brass_machine.
The weather is good most of the time, I guess it is like GB near the sea. Not so cold here at the coastline in the winter max -20c, but dark as the sun is under the horizon. It will return 9 of january.

Welcome svk! I envy you your fishing and warm winter temperatures. Would love to see what projects you've built or will build. Yes a foundry is a big help -- also a lot of fun. And I've started to look at mine as a possible external shop heater! Still mulling that one over. But did move it into position...... :coffee:

Anyway, you'll be a great addition here.

if you can flyfish, I don't care rest of it. You may try to weld a driftwood into beach rock with a herring wearing a tin bucket over your  head and pull it off - probably.

If I may, I believe our dear friend Pekka means he would rather fly fish than any other activity.

Whoo hoo.. another new guy. I feel welcome, hope you do too.

Steam engines, well.. a guy in Florida runs them with solar power. Search him on youtube under greenpowerscience Dan Rojas .
I wanna learn how to build one too. From what I read, nobody has developed any advancements since the 1900s..

INSTANT steam, strong hydrogen peroxide shot through a SILVER catalyst screen makes instant steam.. but has silver screen "trash" in it. It is that simple, a instant steam rocket with a nozzle, or in a boiler instant steam.  A boiler could be the size of a lunch box.

Let's play and have some fun here.
I Hung a 24 foot Ibeam this morning in the ceiling by myself, programmed a Arduino this afternoon for a solar project, Helped a buddy out with a electrical motor connection issue on the phone, then cut up a chicken for Hotwings. I'd say it has been a "blessed day" for myself and all those around me.

...steam engines.... From what I read, nobody has developed any advancements since the 1900s..

Except the Brits, Dawai. A handful of them have been advancing it continuously for a hundred years or so because they include a bunch of otherwise dignified grown men who are somehow nutty enough to build and race steam powered model hydroplanes tied to a cable in mucky ponds. 10,000 rpm on a 1 cubic inch engine developing multi HP at 120 mph is no big deal to them. Check this out:
