Small 4inch Rotary Table
« on: February 12, 2014, 06:28:33 AM »
Hi Guys

This little rotary table was made from castings kit obtained from Blackgates Engineering. These were quality castings and machined nicely. Had no big issues either with the drawings or construction.

The base and edge were carefully machined flat and square, then hand scraped flat to a surface plate, lightly blued until they were well spotted and evenly distributed, over the whole surface. The worm wheel was supplied with teeth cut, and the remaining machining was general turning and milling.

The dial graduations were cut on the lathe using a sharp "V" tool, and the numbers were hand punched. When punching any letters or numbers, it is advisable to practice on a piece of scrap material. Different letters and numbers require varying force of hammer blows dependent on their areas.
Altogether an interesting and enjoyable project

                                                                 Cheers David
