Hi superc,  my model of saw and the one mfletch is modding don't have a plastic cover, they are both supplied with pressed sheet metal belt housing and cover lid so they tend to rattle and resonate if not clamped firmly together with the screw which drives me nuts if used for any length of time....OZ.
Helixes aren't always downward spirals, sometimes they're screwed up

Mine is an 18 year old Shop Force 150-010.  Asian product with a plastic cover over the pulley.  Essentially the same design though.  I put a wood blade on it when I need to cut 2x4s and a 14 tpi metal blade for the metal.  About 15 years ago I went through a summer where I was changing blades 2 or 3 times every two days or so going back and forth from wood projects to metal projects.  Somewhere in there I swapped blades and changed pulley speeds and forgot to put the little screw back into the pulley casing and didn't notice until the next swap.  That is when I realized the screw was an option on mine.
