Polly, Kitten, and others........
« on: June 06, 2014, 05:33:59 PM »
As many of you know, I'm auctioning donated engines, on the Steamtoys Forum. On behalf of the Rainbows Children's Hospice.

Here is the second one, in the series..... Tubal Cain's, Polly.

Just as she came to me. Not done any cleaning......

I just filled with water and meths. Then oiled her important little places.

Just a few hours in. Standing at £60!

This is the fourth one, of the donated engines. It is a copy of the very rare Mamod Minor 2, twin cylinder.

I haven't cleaned it. But, I have adjusted/ tweaked a few areas.

It was not built, as any form of perfection!

Quote from the builder.......

The MM2 was copied from one I had at the time, She is a very very, close copy, apart from the cylinders are built up, and the burner is deliberately, not a copy.
It was an exercise to see what it would take to build a batch, and just never got round to it.
One cylinder has a slight blow/leak, as I made the frame a little thin.
The firebox and chimney are Mamod, from a scrap MM1. She dances on the table top just like an mm1.

You could call it the first prototype, of a small production run. Which didn't happen!

After final tweaking. I filled with 60ml, hot water, and full meths tank.

Again. Listen to the soundtrack. The revs were higher than the video seems to show.......

Flywheel, 1 1/4".........

Boiler. 1 1/2" dia. x 4 1/4" long........

Overall height, 4 5/8"........

Topsides........

Undersides.......

Offered for auction, yesterday. Already standing at £75........

This boat, is the final donation, for the Rainbows Childrens Hospice.

She is a, "Miss America", but shortened to 70cm. or 27.5" approx, oal.

Untouched. Just as it came to me.

Quote from the builder.......

The boat is based on a Miss America, although a little shorter.
The alloy engine post carries oil.
Your
(my) measurements from the thread. http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=3750.0  Were used to make the engine.
The cylinder is slightly short, but she runs like an angry wasp.
The propeller has not yet, been "set".

Lots of pics........

Undersides........

Engine room........

Lots of room, up front.......

And, to the rear........

Burner.......

Sorry! No video, at the moment. I don't want to steam it.

The auction will close at 22.00 hours, UK Time. On Saturday, 19th July.

Bidding has reached £200.....
