new boy in town
« on: June 20, 2014, 06:00:24 AM »
Hi, just joined this site today.

Real name Bob Cooper. got my "sunny bob" nickname from my habit of only turning up at motorcycle rallies if the sun was shining. I hate the rain and cold so much I moved to Cyprus as soon as I could.

I'm an engineer and an engineers son and have worked with metal most of my life, and have spent most of my hobby time rebuilding and customising motorcycles. I'm pretty handy with all workshop tools, and have decided its time to get a milling machine.

I'm retired now, and finally have some time to learn a new skill, and milling will be that skill.

I'm looking to buy this summer in the UK, so would like any and all advice on a bench top mill drill combo that wont break my pension. happy to consider used if any of you have a decent one to sell on.
Thanks

Hi Lyn (male),

I can work out your sig name pretty easy. I've had kawasaki vulcans for the last 16 years.

Good luck with Wales. I used to live in Somerset, but spent a lot of time working the M4 corridor all the way to caermarthen and beyond.

Bob, it's a Tecumseh 5 Hp horizontal shaft engine -- a junk engine with a seized piston and no head that I converted into a steam engine.

Very impressive work.

Turned out that a lot of it was above my pay grade, too -- and understanding only came by starting from scratch 4 times! And now, looking back at it, I have to read things twice just to figure out what I was saying! Seemed to make sense at the time though....

I do plan to get back to that project this summer -- I want it running on steam, and generating electricity. As soon as this tractor is finished I'd better try to figure out what I was doing......   :loco:
