Title: Index.php
Post by: margrove on December 06, 2011, 05:53:42 AM
Hi there,
I really enjoy my visits to Madmodder and can only marvel at the cool things you do!
The only problem is that my browsers (IE, Firefox & Chrome on XP) won't open jpg or pdf files that many posts link to. They keep wanting to open "index.php" and Windows doesn't know how to or with what.
This seems to happen only on Madmodder.
Everyone else seems to be able to view the files so it's just me :(
Any ideas please?
Martin

Hi martin and welcome.

I am afraid this is not an issue that I have using IE or Firefox. I know PDF do need Abode Reader installed (as well as the plugin for browsers) but you say these are fine for other sites, and jpg's should also be fine as I am assuming you open these all the time. Bit of an odd one I have to say.

Never the less, enjoy your stay

Hi Martin

Can you send me a screenshot of what is going on?

I had the same problem after updating Firefox and Madmodder was rehosted. I have Windows 7. I now Use Internet Explorer; no problem with files, however my "recent unread messages since last visit" are together with all  "unread messages" now. That, however is not a problem!!
Cheers,
Ray.

Thank you for responding and the warm welcome.
I'll attach the screenshot which sums up what I'd originally posted.
You'll be able to open it, but I won't!
Cheers,
Martin

Ok Martin. It will take me a day or two to figure this out for you... A couple of questions tho.

1. This happens on all browsers? IE, FireFox and Chrome?
2. It doesn't happen on any other forum?
3. Do you browse any forums running SMF 2.0.1? HMEM for instance runs 1.1.14, so that doesn't help.
4. Have you tried using a different PC? Maybe a friends or work PC using your login?

Hello, Eric!
Thanks for taking this on.

In answer to your questions:

Firefox seems to be the culprit both on my machine (v 8.0.1) and my daughter's on the same network (v 8.0)
Chrome works OK now but I had issues last night.
(Firefox is my browser of choice because of all the bookmarks readily accessible.)
I don't use IE at all.
I have not had problems on other web pages although I haven't made a rigorous search for other problematic sites.
I'm sorry but I have no idea what SMF 2.0.1 is. (blushing)
I hope it helps!
Gratefully,
Martin

P.S
In Firefox I see thumbnails of the image on some pages that expand on the page on left clicking. Clicking on the text link below the thumbnail reproduces the aforementioned difficulty.

Hi Martin...

Can you try it on IE for me? I realize you don't use it (Neither do I), but give it a test anyway.

Firefox works good for me... Chrome (which I use a lot) has issues displaying some characters.

You should see a thumbnail of the pictures. When you click on them, it should expand. Clicking on the link should allow you to download the pictures.

SMF is the forum software. We use version 2.0.1 which is the newest. A lot of forums that use SMF use 1.1.x  That is like the difference between OS versions (say XP vs win7)

Gonna research this one.

AH HA!

Found it! Seems there is an issue with SMF and the latest version of FireFox. You can read about it HERE (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/895710#answer-274119)

Looking for a patch...

Well, now.
IE v8 works now, as does Chrome.
Firefox v8.0 still doesn't invoke Fax Viewer, but thumbnails (when present) display OK and expand OK.
I run XP SP3 on an Intel core 2 duo Asus MB with 2MB memory, fwiw.

OOps, crossed messages! Sorry.
I presume that you apply the patch to your SW?
Or do I on mine?
Ah well, Chrome it is then for the time being and thank you very much for your efforts.
Best wishes,
Martin

Martin

That one isn't you... Attachments pre October 2011 may not work here and there. When the database conversion happened, not everything worked. So, that one isn't you.

Thanks, but is here some kind of workaround? I would dearly like to see some of those images, if possible.

Just to add a bit more to this confusion.

I right clicked on your screen shot on the attachment above. It won't open for me. Although I do get the little finger pointing. I'm using Windows 7 Proffesional with Explorer.

Having the same problem; I just noticed my coax indicator thread (http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=3776.0) has lost all the pictures and jpeg link downlown index.php.

I'm using Firefox 8.0 but have not seen the problem elsewhere.

Bill... it does that for you because the attachments are broken. For some reason they did not survive the transition to the new forum. So any attachment prior to the move, isn't working. After the move, they work just fine.

I am still working on a fix.
