Amongst other vise threads.. Anyone have any idea how this vise would work or the math for making that "radial" pattern with sliding bolts that closes it??
Why im asking well check my hydraulic build thread.. need a way to old a big ass tube...

Easiest way to hold a big tube is a chain with tensioning bolts at each end.

Ah ok, yeah that will requires some kind of table.. i need to fix it in work bench and conjour up some kind of "straight" cutting solution.
Anyways i think i figured the pipevise out.

That's kind of cool. Wonder if you could use that same kind of radial clamp on a small die handle and hold several sizes and shapes of dies -- hex and round. I always seem to have the wrong handle for the particular die I need.

Well i guess you could.. if you make it smaller.. My animation there is specified to a 180mm opening. ;)
The trick was to get the "straight" slots matching curved slot just right.. The 3 large curved slot has static bolts. the straight slot has a short matching "travel" slot behond the actuating plates.. The "teeth" is just triangles with the correct distance between bolt holes.
Its not my idea. i just reverse engineered it from images and videos i found. =)

You may also find it interesting to have a look at a Longworth chuck (http://madmodder.net/index.php/topic,8136.msg87007.html#msg87007)

That seems like a simpler solution than what i reversed.. Just two discs with the same pattern and then made em go opposite ways... I need to cad some more. =D
