For those that didn't know the late Fred Dibnah he was a very down to earth, though rather eccentric Steeple Jack who lived in Bolton in Lancashire. He came to fame by demolishing 'Mill Chimneys' using a very low tech non explosive method, and ended up having a TV series featuring him.

His house in Bolton was almost completely re-built by him in his own unique style and in the garden was an extensive steam powered workshop, mainly line shaft driven.
He even dug a mine in his back garden.

A very sad ending to a famous person's existance.....having to sell off his belongings....I would have thought his sons would have had first dibs ( no pun.....)
My father has already asked me if there are any tools I want from his collection......

Clearly the Auctioneers neither watched Fred's shows :wack: or are experienced in selling this sort of stuff: Calling it a Beam engine :bang:

I totally agree No practical knowledge at all. Can you imagine their description of any of our workshop tools etcetra.
This is one auctioneers that you could NOT recommend.

The wake up maybe family getting ripped of when weve gone
Not that Iv much to leave and I plan on it been totally donald ducked before I pop my cloggs

Arr I see what you mean :thumbup: I wouldn't trust anyone to value my stuff while I'm alive :scratch: But once I'm dead It won't really matter :bugeye:
I have approx. 3500 sq' of workshop which I live above, I just had to rent another unit 2500 sq' just because I'd run out of space :bang: But here's the thing it's my stuff and my choice to have all this stuff (bit like Fred?) once I'm dead what happens to it all will be of no consequence to me so I'm not going to worry about it.

Personally, I couldn't care less what happens after I check out for the last time. The nice thing about home-shops is that they are there mainly for enjoyment. As long as the owner has had some enjoyment from either using the tool or has had the pride and satisfaction of ownership, it has paid for itself.

Yes I agree but also it's not fair to leave a 'clear up liability' for your relatives.

I'm taking the view that they can spend some of my money on paying people to clear it up after I have gone. The sooner it is sorted the sooner they get the rest of my money :thumbup:

My Dad recieved his Dads lathe and tools when he passed and I recieved both lathes as Dad had one too along with a shaper, drill press, tablesaw ect when he passed but I had to drive out from Calgary to Victoria BC and haul them back. When I bite it my son will get it all house included but if I had a son (or daughter) that didn't want anything to do with my hobby I would rather
(a) give tools to a buddy
(b) or see if one of these makersheds could use them.

I agree it would be nice to give stuff to those who would appreciate it but I see my stuff as my toys rather than as an asset. If my next of kin like it they can choose to keep it or they could sell it, give it away or even get it carted away. I think the idea of my stuff making it's way to some enthusiast's hands at a bargain basement price through an auction or garage sale and making them feel like they have just won the lottery would make me chuckle in my grave.
