Title: Hello from a noob...
Post by: adamriley on December 23, 2011, 06:21:39 PM
Just wanted to say a quick hello.
My name is Adam, I live in the Midlands and I am new to this hobby.
I have a Barker lathe, and very little in the way of tooling, or knowledge (!), so expect many questions from me!

Thanks for having me.

Adam.

Hello Adam! Good luck, in what is a fantastic hobby. What are you looking to build?

Chris

Thanks Chris.
I'm looking to build woodworking tools (see my thread in the gallery) and jigs to help me in my day job, and maybe the odd lathe attachment or two!

Hi Adam

Welcome to the collective :borg:

A good way to learn (in addition to asking questions here  ) is making shop tools. What kind of jigs? What is your day job?

Thanks for the warm welcome.
My day job is cabinet making.
My (lathe) tuit list includes...
Tailstock die/tap holder,
Radius turner
(possibly) a toolpost grinder
I have to cast a steady of some kind,
and about a zillion different mandrels for the woodworking tools I'm starting to make!

I have a kiln, so I can heat treat the tools I make, and I'm gathering together the stuff I need for sandcasting, so I might cast a few things such as the steady.

Adam.

Hi Adam!

You have one of these?

I never saw a lathe with a rotating headstock before. Very interesting machine!
