Title: Doris - 3.5" Black Five
Post by: raynerd on October 13, 2016, 01:12:58 PM
My Uncle sadly passed away during the summer. My Aunty kindly gave me his Doris, Black 5, that he spent about 20+ years making! I`ve yet to have it steaming but wanted to show you some photos.

If anyone has any info about this engine or has any comments, I`d appreciate it. I`m looking forward to running it.

All the best

Chris

Very nice

When was it last steamed ? Probably a while ago, so get a boiler test performed before it ends in tears  :bugeye:

Thanks Andrew, it is a lovely looking engine.

It has come with 10+ years of boiler certificates and the last one was April this year, 2016. It was last run late spring, May this year. It has been well looked after as were all his engines. He was actually an avid Gauge 1 enthusiast.

Beautiful loco that.

Always thought Black 5 were a handsome engine.

Can you drive a steam loco?

As you mentioned Springfield park and Rochdale you will get all the help you need there!

What a nice inheritance Chris looks a lovely used model, better than a shelf queen it looks like its done some work just as it should be.

Jeff nice to read that issue of Model Engineer but no adverts in the PDF version. i love looking at the old prices. my collection of mags starts at 1950, I always enjoyed the LBSC words and music.

Keighley & Worth Valley railway often run a Black Five. Reminds me of the old days when 'train spotter' wasn't a derogatory term.

Very nice model.
