Title: Home brew boring facing and radiusing head (video)
Post by: BillTodd on January 27, 2017, 06:03:24 PM
I think you will appreciate this homebrew boring facing head,

The video is in Italian (i think!) but if really needs no verbal explanation:

A nice find Bill, think i you would really need to have a lot of use it to decide to make one.  I would  keep forgetting how to set it up. well made tool and a good video.

I may have to revise my orbiting lathe tool

Awesome home-made tool but I'd be disappointed with the finish on that radius. I love the ingenuity of the fine-feed though I can't figure out how they got one tooth different on two gears with the same PCD.

The finish might have been better with a slower rpm (less vibration) and hss tooling.

Cutting  a gear with an extra tooth is not too difficult, just adjust addenum slightly to get the smaller pcd ( i made a 61t gear to replace a 60t for metric threads this way)

That guy is not affraid of small parts. The whole thing looks very inricate.

I wonder how much time went on designing it and was it first designed on CAD or drafted on paper and then evolved up from certain design planes and set points.

The basic taper head is based on a head by the Tree company. The radius part is, I believe his own. There's a brief flash of cad in the video so I guess he developed it in cad.

As a dyslexic bilingual, I am entitled to get my spelling mixed up between the two languages I speak! Smart arse!!

Personally, I think it's a conspiracy.  Think about it, most of us have been spelling these words correctly for years if not decades, then along come these PC's and Smart-phones and suddenly we can't spell anymore?  It's not us that are dyslexic, it's the keyboards.  The computers are in on it too and probably spell-checker also.  Why else would we put a word in a sentence when it makes no sense for that word to be there, just because it's spelled correctly?   They're out to get us I tell you.

Tongue firmly in cheek,
Don

I don't go along with your conspiracy idea! If my spell check is set to French, (it's usually in the language I'm not writing) then it won't pick up my spelling in the wrong language.

All the best, Matthew

I'm going with spellchecker! But I have to say some words just look wrong!

When I said It "alien" before, I did not intend to create a discussion. Just made a joke about it because to me, such complicated machining is out of this world, for a hobby shop like mine anyway. Did not want to offend anyone.

That's real beautiful. With the complexity of it I was surprised when he cut to one of those bf-20 mills, I was really expecting something alot fancier. Must take some balls, or calluses, to grab onto that knurled section to advance it.
