Title: Rifle Rest
Post by: Corvus corax on August 01, 2011, 05:19:00 AM
For a while now I've been looking for a decent rifle rest to use when shooting of the bench. The ranges here all seem to have some horrid wooden post type things or, occasionally, worn out sandbags.

Anyway, I present the Ghetto Rest 2000 :D
These type of rests were very common in SA back in my days.
I found the jack in a friends garage that I was helping him clean out.
The adjustment handle was made on my lathe, the base is wood covered with that foam stuff by my wife.
The steel base, for the sandbag, was a security door striker plate from my scrap box that I drilled and countersunk and we also covered in foam. There are 4 holes for the sandbag to lace on with.

Whole thing cost me 20 cents for the board that its on, all the rest was from my scrap box. I admit that I do horde a lot of stuff.

The wife made the bags a while back .
Bonus points if you ex-SA people spot my Trust Bank sand bag.
It works a charm and is relatively quick and easy to make.

Corvus,

Clever use of some bits that were nearly useless.

Came out very nice

And I get a bonus point :)

Some of those F class boys have several over £1000 each, small fry compared with scope cost.
Got two here from the ex 2009 world champ for modding so can use for US rules (3 feet.)

Nice innovative use of scrap materials.
