Title: Sears Drill Press Stand
Post by: Chuck in E. TN on July 16, 2015, 09:02:18 AM
 What to make from it?
I picked up a Sears drill stand type drill press for a couple bucks at a yard sale. What can I make from it? Any ideas? I was thinking of adapting it to a Dremel type tool or maybe a sensitive drill/tapping stand.
I already have a medium sized bench top drill press.

I have one of those in the scrap heap. Maybe put supermagnets in the base for a poor man's mag drill.

HI,
How about mounting a 4" mini grinder on the stand  to use as a cut off saw?

The base and the pillar lend themselves very well to make a tapping and staking tool from.

The simplest version is an adapter that fits where the drill was and a short shaft with a small drill chuck and a crank. A more elaborate vesion at least for tapping will be shown in the next issue of Model Engineers Workshop if I noted it correctly.
