Guy on the rec.crafts.metalworking news group, who is a regualr member, posted a nice picture of his wooden steam engines. I have the plans for these somewere. It's a nice engine to build if you don't know how to solder. :lol:

Would make a nice X-mas present for a grandson at an early stage of his life to get him into such things.

He is way too late, I have already made one.

But over on HMEM, I once got a competition going for the fastest build, but it must use a coathanger, or part of one, somewhere in the engine.
It was a great success, and some very novel and unique designs emerged.
Because it was my idea, I didn't submit it for judging, but this one was my contribution, called 'Crusoe', it ran, and still does, very well indeed.

They may not be functional, the ones in the book are turned by hand, which may explain the extended crankpin.
Nice looking tho. I made the Geneva Gear in wood from the book for my mates grandson ... he kept trapping his fingers :D :D

Well Chuck as you can see our Bog's is well rounded, and I don't mean his middle, in engine design and build.
I stand correct, he has built one out of wood.
I just don't think he would go to all the fuss of getting wood chips on his nice metal working equipment to make one with tight tolerances. :lol:
I am now doning my asbestos underwear because I'm sure Bog's is going to give me a shot. Innnnnnnnnnnn Comingggggggggg.

Isn't it marvelous what you can do with half of the neighbours tree, a bottle of superglue, a few screws and a ball of string.
I must admit that it is a little more technical than the plank and nail job you came up with.

I personally can't get used to a material that has 1/16" as a very close tolerance.
But I do love well made brown items.

I've seen that one before. Amazing how smoothly it runs, even on lung power.
I don't think I'd call it an air engine since it runs on vacumn. Well I guess it could be air. It's just the air going backwards that's all. Huh :scratch:
