Continuing with modderitis...
I've since added a dro display to the mill.
The kit came from Arceurotrade.
I added a hex spacer to lift the readout clear of its bracket to give a bit more movement other wise it would foul the bracket....
The readout unit is fitted into the left side of the mill base coz I'm left handed.... :)
I have the scales to add, a 600mm for X, 200mm for Y and 400 mm for the Z axis, although I think this is superfluous because I'll add a cheap scale for the quill travel....
More to follow....

Got the X a is scale mounted......finally...
I ummed and ahhhed about how I was going to attach it to the table, brackets were my preferred option but I ended up drilling and tapping the end pieces and making two spacers......
-
Fixing the readhead was really easy, I just picked up two of the bolt holes used for the way wiper....
The bracket was made from some aluminium box section cut down to make an L bracket.... :dremel:
Add a few holes that were slotted to permit minor adjustments and we're done.....
X axis readout works a treat.....btw, the scale length is 600mm, maybe a bit overkill but the 400mm one I had seemed a bit small?
Y axis is next.... :coffee:

Looks good, John.
Is it spaced out so that you can use the X axis travel stops?

Pete,
Yes it is, that was one of the reasons why I mounted it like I did....I was going to use the travel stop nuts that are captive, for mounting the scale and then make some more nuts later....
I may dispense with the travel stop switch for the power feed though.....but could be another modderfication for later....
