Title: solvent weld pipe
Post by: wheeltapper on January 04, 2011, 06:05:14 AM
Hi
I have a task which requires me to assembe a stack of solvent weld pipes and fix an end plate to one end.
What I need to know is the proper name for said solvent weld pipe and whether I can get the same material in sheet form.

thanks for any help.
Roy

Rather depend on what pipe you are intending to use, Common household waste pipe is MUPVC, pressure pipe is either the same or ABS, this is the type typically used on swimming pools and the like.

Roy,

In the UK, Jason has it spot on for the sheet form. ABS.

Go into any decent model shop and they should have it in stock in A4 size sheets up to 2mm thick, or sometimes you can get 2ft x 4ft sheets up to 3mm thick.

I use the plastic pipe cleaner to weld it together, it used to be MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), but I think that in now banned, but the new mixture still works OK, but not quite as good. Or any of the proprietary liquid plastic glues from a model shop will work.
