Title: Tiny drilling aid (UK)
Post by: Bogstandard on April 16, 2011, 02:23:46 PM
Another little thing I have seen that has only very recently become available in the UK for very small outlay. The cheapest I have seen these before (excluding chuck) is well over 20 squid, from the US, then you would need to pay import duty as well. At this price, they are a real bargain, and if you are into the market for one, now is the time to get one while on special offer.

Not really worth trying to make yourself.

This is mine, fitted with a tiny keyless chuck, available from Chronos.

Thats a good buy Bogs, certainly better than the £250 from J&L although that does include a chuck

Jason,

That would be the one with an Albrecht chuck, they alone cost about 100 squid apiece after vat and postage.

Now, that's worth having!

Thanks for the heads up John.

That is a good deal Bogs.  I made mine a while back and had to redo it 3 times for more accurate mating of the parts and sliding fits.  Should I ever need another one, it will bought and not made by me.  They are very useful.

Good idea again John.

The Arc reference is spot on, but I'm having difficulty finding the chuck at Chronos. Been through 256 items without a sniff. Any hints?
Thanks
Pete

A bit better than the £183 Myfords want for theirs, mind you they do sell the chuck with it.

Pete,

I have just been thru them as well, nothing.

I bought some a few months ago and I think I informed everyone about them, but maybe over on Hmem, but it no looks like they no longer stock them. They were 16 squid each.

The only place I found them now is here,

http://rotagriponline.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=84&Itemid=29

At about 32 squid.

It is the JT0 fitting that causes the problem. I need to open one of mine out to JT1 so that I can fit it onto my Meddings high speed drill.

Looks like it will have to be a keyed chuck you go for.

BTW, have a look at the LMS prices, although they aren't in stock

Shame I missed your Hot Tip on HMem....it is a job to keep up with them all though. :)

I had scanned the Rotagrip offerings. The PKC3 @ £32 was the nearest I found to your item, that's why I asked. Rather reluctant to revert to using chuck keys again, so will keep my eyes open for some more Hot Tips.

Thanks for checking for me.
