Title: scraping!
Post by: mattinker on November 28, 2019, 11:21:25 AM
Well, it's been nearly two years since we did the Richard King course at Andrews. I've been scraping over the last couple of weeks. I milled and scraped the 12" that I bought from Kev. This was inspired by my finding a new old stock, unscraped "fresh of the planer" 32" 60°, which I scraped one side on and made handles for. In the Photos is the 72" that I bought from Graham. This spring I finished lapping my surface plate, I am very behind on my video editing! Progress is slow! This retirement lark is great, but I seem to have less time than ever!!

Nice one Matthew

I've done loads of scraping - several surface plates/straight edges, South bend lathe, Harding lathe, just started on a surface grinder. I would chronicle them here but I just don't like the way the board doesn't let you put pics and text into a sequential time-line.

Perhaps Ill put some of the smaller projects up that only require a photo or two.

Pete,

That's a good idea! I'd love to see some!

Very Nice Matthew

Not done as much as I would like...I need to put the hours as young Peter!!!

Are you posting your progress at the the well known welding forum Peter?

I saw a nice post from Major Paul the other day about his new rebuild project, very interesting.

Best to all you guys ,

Thanks Bernie!

Very interesting! Nice to see Pete's work on the South Bend! I've got some reading up to do! 7 Biaxs! Wow, the only ones I've seen here have been very few and far between and silly money!

Cheers, Matthew.

It may pay off if you drop by Paul's whilst you are over here......:dremel:

Bernie, what names are people going under on the mig welding forum? I don't know what I'll be able to do at Christmas, I'm coming over as a foot passenger, I'd have to see what I can work out! Cheers, Matthew

I only know the name of the three apostles (Peter,Paul,Matthew) plus Hugh and that is because they are very easy to identify in the forum, you may have to register and introduce yourself to identify who belong to the dirty dozen.

If we can get a decent group I will love to catch-up

This is (one of several) reasons why I trade under my own name on Forums - never seen the point in hiding if you have nothing to hide !

Very good point Andrew,

I love that you share your passion for tinkering through the different forums and it was a real pleasure to meet you in person at the scraping class. :nrocks:

Who is coming to the mini scrapers reunion?

Well I am off work now until Jan 6th so I can if it's in the next month. For a later date I can make myself available with some notice :)

Well I know that Matthew is coming over from France just before Christmas so it would seem sensible if we are having a get together to do it then.

What date are you over here Matthew? Lets knock some date pegs in the diary !

I'm only coming if Julian brings his beautiful planer he just bought, so I can nick it off him :D

I'm coming over on Monday the 23rd and leaving on Thursday the 2nd.

I don't know exactly what Chris is planning, afternoon or evening?

I leave on the 24th for two weeks   and looking at the above I don't think we are going to agree on a date suitable for everyone...

Day or Evening . . I can manage either given notice . Put a few snacks and bottles on the table, or we could frequent the local bub (Queens Head Sedlescombe) . .  I've already got visitors on the 24th  . . .but maybe after Christmas and before New Year is usually a pretty dead time

Between Christmas and New year then, preferably afternoon for me as I will be dependant on Chris for transport!
