Title: Hello from Namibia
Post by: arnoldb on August 20, 2009, 04:08:27 PM
Some members on MadModder who are also members of HMEM must be running away in terrified stampede now....

For the rest of the members who have not yet thusly aborted, I'm Arnold, from Windhoek in Namibia.
I followed a link posted by a certain Mr. CC (I just know I'm going to get some  :wack: for that) - and, being an inquisitive sort 'o person, I had a look at the rest of the site, and very much like what I see, along guidelines I appreciate.

Some background on myself:
I'm a qualified electronics technician and started my career at the national power utility here in Namibia as just that. Over the years, my career permutated into my current day job officially titled "IT Administrator" where I do mostly software systems analysis and programming.  - I know, but that's a long story....
To get away from the insanity described above, I do attempt some hobby engineering, and am pretty much a DIY type of person.  At least I know I am partially immune to one specific strain of  :proj: I noticed here:
Then a bug bit and I did this:

Both the above bad deeds were done in the last 1 1/2 months. The place the deeds were done looks like this (Yes - I know it needs tidying-up )

Some other things I have done or are busy with include custom built electronic alarm systems for a local bank, software for the management of (and hardware data acquisition interfaces to it's metering systems) the Namibian power grid, replacing the engine in my 1983 Toyota Hilux pickup (as a result I have some Metric Fine thread cutting kit), renovating & re-tiling my kitchen (I like cooking as well - go figure), built a decent sized cage for Shrek (my parrot), and some other bits'n'bobs.

Now, If the above lot didn't scare you off and cause the administrators to permanently lock me out of this site, I just might be in the correct "mad" place  :nrocks:

Welcome to the collective as we like to call it.  :borg:

You'll fit right in. All our shops are messy. (I guess I should speak for my self) Just take a look at mine when you get a chance.

Arnold,

It is not what the shop looks like that matters, it is what comes out of it and your mind that does.

Nice work you have done there, and it does prove you are definitely not immune to  :proj:

Arnold, welcome to the ward errr collective, nice size shop/garage and equipment.  I don't see any mess, just some round tuits.  It can't be too bad because I see several unused flat surfaces.
The engines look rather nice :D.

Arnold

Welcome to MadModder. I can see you have us partially figured out so we won't have to tell you that  :mmr: or to be warry of catching  :proj:. Since you already know that  :worthless: I'll just have to say that I hope you enjoy your stay and we appreciate you showing us around your shop and telling us about yourself.

Cheers

Don

Thanks for the warm welcome Everyone

Darren - the baked beans are for generating some compressed air to save "eltrickery" - then the can gets filled with water used to dunk hot bits of metal into; The steam that comes off then has a faint baked bean smell, to neutralise the compressed air smell

Hmmmm - "Visa Moment"
1 Case Windhoek Lager (or preferably Tafel Lager) - ~ 3 1/2 UK pounds
1 bottle Jeagermeisster - ~ 10 UK pounds
1 Braaivleis & Pap (BBQ with "polenta") with good friends under crystal clear starry skies here in Namibia - absolutely priceless.

I don't think I could EVER leave here - even if it is out in the styx and I can't get all the tools I want !

Ein prozit  , ein prozit  - wer gumiclich zein  .... (now where's that "singing smiley")
Next song:
Hard wie Kameldorn holtz ist unzer land....  (now where's that "singing smiley" - once again!!)

 - had a couple on you already, as well as the JM or two :D - eat your heart out, or come over for a visit!

Not a lot of people on the blog would understand how hard a camelthorn tree or Namibia can be. :med:

My chances of visiting those parts again are very slim - :(

Good job making all the bits yourself rather than give up.
