As I posted on another thread, I'm there all of the three days on the single ARC stand running demo's on the new end mill sharpener. Not sure where the stand will be but guess it's roughly where ARC used to stand by the doors in the long hall.
I could maybe bring along my box of about 60 end mills for you to test that cutter on if you like :thumbup:

Everyone is welcome to bring some but going to have to put a 5-6 ? limit on them so everyone gets a chance.
Will be able to do 3mm to 12mm in 2,3 or 4 flute in HSS or Carbide.
If you have any with chipped ends then just flat them off on a grinder before you come to save having to repeated grind them back. It doesn't need any end cutting edges left, it can start from a solid if needed. 4 flutes can be the type with a pip in or if they are ground back to get rid of the pip then it will grind them centre cutting.
You lads won't be the only ones as there is an article in MEW on the grinder where it's stated that we will be doing cutters at the show.

Six of us going from Crewe "Men in Sheds" on the Friday. The meeting place for the last few years has been by the big window at the back of the main entrance hall (plenty of room there) at 12 noon, but if anyone else going on Friday wants to use an alternative, that will be fine by us.
I will have to sort through my end mills for John to play with. :palm:

Can't imagine anyone would want to be trapped in a car with me for more than an hour!
I wouldn't have the money to really make use of Harrogate though.

Sorry Stew, but the "men in sheds" have changed the date that we are going to Saturday. Vote was 4 for Saturday, 1 for Friday, and I didn't mind either way. So Saturday it is.

P.S. I don't know where John S will be doing his demo, but I have a feeling it may get a little crowded around mid day, so may be best to meet for a chat by the big window again. I will go with the flow.

I can't go to Harrogate this year despite being offered a lift on Saturday.
We're off caravanning in mid-Wales for the week and to say that we'll go a day later so that I can go wouldn't be a wise move. We'll have no internet, no electricity and only a feeble mobile phone signal if we climb to the highest point of the site - just a beautiful setting and the chance of catching the odd sea bass.
Last year only two of us actually managed to meet up by the big window.
I hope it's a bit better than last year - a few of the bigger trade stands were missing and I only managed to part company with about £15 for a Myford faceplate (bargain at £10) and some blocks of glass filled nylon (still where I put them when I got home).
It cost more than that in fuel and to get in.
Maybe next year.

Looks like I will be able to go. John (doubleboost) kindly offered a lift but I mentioned the show to my grandad and he seemed real interested, so my dad offered to lift us both down. I'll be heading down on Saturday.
Hopefully I'll be able to find you all. Still gonna be "the big window at the back of the main entrance hall at 12 noon"?

Lots of talk on here about meeting John S on the Arc Euro stand at 12 noon. Well if past shows are anything to go by, any of the stands are very crowded at that time of day, that's why for the last few years the favourite meeting place has been by the big window. No stands there so plenty of room to natter without being in anybody's way. I would think John would rather deal with us a few at a time spread over the whole day rather than descend on him mob handed. Just my take on the subject, maybe John will have his own ideas.

I've seen a very short video this morning of Doubleboost John with his video camera sun was shinning.

Good to meet John Doubleboost at last....., Mick Toon and Bob krv3000, Bluechip and Stilldrillin.....and one or two others I didn't quite catch the names of.....
As to the show itself, I was dis-appointed by the distinct lack of traders again....College Engineering, Noggin End and Proops were missing, probably other regulars that I can't think of....
The Chester stand lacked a few of their offerings only to be be outshone by Warco.....
Finally made my mind up and ordered the GH550 from Warco after haggling (thanks to 'ER indoors intervening..) for some freebies...
Would I go again next year? Not sure probably not....I think internet shopping is the main reason why there's a reduction in trade support....
Anyone else want to share their thoughts of the experience?

Exhibition organisers are now charging an arm and a leg for stalls. Add that to the fact that small traders with limited staff have to close their conventional outlet during an exhibition, and the result is many don't find attending commercially viable.

It is rather concerning the absence of exhibitors, the models are very nice of course but offers from traders help justify the expense of the cost of travelling, more people than you think are not there also many stands are reduced in size. I fully understand the business costs and pressures, from memory these traders were absent from previous years and no doubt more, Chronos, Proops, Transwave, Arceurotrade, reeves, Camden, Rotogrip and no doubt many more. In my opinion the solution has to lie with the organisers, everyone is in business to make a profit but if things carry on in this fashion there will not be a show to go to. Obviously the cost associated with putting on a show are huge but so are the rewards with admission at £9/£10 a head there needs to be a bit of transparency and some straight talking. Not knocking anybody but it would be a shame to see the show fold, up until recently there was a Kit Car show at Newark however it ceased to be viable and sadly is no more.

Hi, lads, I can report that the Geordie lads all got home safe and sound after a good day at the show, hope you all did too. It was nice to put faces to names :thumbup: .
We were discussing the lack of traders and general slow decline of the show too, its still worth going but for how many more years ? Sad that the cost of the stands seems to be stopping sellers attending.
I had good day and plenty banter and a few bits and bob got for the workshop.

Well back from the 3 days at the show and a very enjoyable time
Now the show, Really enjoyed myself, met many new people and also renewed acquaintance with many old friends. I feel that Harrogate is the best show of the year. It has an atmosphere that seems to be lacking at other shows. Plenty of room, dedicated halls with plenty of power, good hard standing parking and plenty of space for the larger models to run around outside.
I was there for one reason, if you don't count my jolly, and that was to demonstrate the end mill grinder. This was on my time, my shilling and not paid for by ARC although I did get a free meal on Saturday night so the £4 is now down to £3 wink
First off got loads on negative views ranging from it only sharpens the ends [ Yes it was ONLY designed for that in the same way a Myford lathe can't plasma cut metal ]
You can buy a lot of milling cutters for £800 [ perfectly true and if you are someone who won't use £800 worth of milling cutters in you life then a valid point and so it's not for you ] Acra Machine tools were also there with a very large and heavy industrial 14 x 40 lathe with a price tag of £8,000. That won't fit in the average 10 x 6 wooden shed with single phase but didn't stop them coming and I'll bet they didn't have anyone telling them it was too expensive ?
So once the negatives were out the way and simply discounted we got on to the serious players. I had a LOT of interest from a few clubs who soon realised they need to spend money or pay tax and the spin off is once paid for it is then a source of revenue all year and not just fine track days.
A couple of University workshops expressed an interest as did a few serious model engineers who have the foresight to look ahead. Milling cutters are never going to get cheaper and good carbide has never been cheap.
Over the weekend I sharpened a total of 232 cutters brought in by punters, split 91, 71 and 70 on the Sunday. Average commercial price for doing cutters is about £5.50 upwards.
I did many that were good cutters but commercially not viable to sharpen. One one is going to pay £5.50 to regrind a 4mm cutters costing less than this but it now has a new life.
I could have done more but a lot of time was spent repeating how it works and how to set up. I also ground 40 / 50 ? that I brought up in case I had no cutters from punters. These were not included in the total of 232.
I was never hard pushed, often had 3 or 4 people waiting but it wasn't a bind.
These were mainly HSS but probably 20% were carbide. In fact the first person on Friday rolled up with 7 carbide cutters that he gleefully told me I wouldn't be able to do anything with as they were chipped and badly broken [ nice one smiley ]
He left after about 15 minutes with 6 of them sharpened perfectly and has to come back later for the 7th as I had to grind about 8mm off it.
Worst one was an extended 1/2" cutter with about the last 5/8" badly damaged and the guy was perfectly willing to scrap this due to the damage but it survived to cut another day. I was a shame to waste a long cutter like this.
All this was done for free with donations asked for the Children's Heart Trust, a charity my daughter is involved with. No price was inferred or offered, it being left to the punter and I made a point of not even looking at what went in the collection box, most paid but some I think didn't realise there was a charity box and said thanks and walked off, not worried.
At the end of the weekend I had collected £170.89 for the charity and I'd like to take this chance to thank everyone who called round the stand, whether they brought cutters or not, for their company and support.
I'd also like to extend my thanks to the organises of the Harrogate show for the help and friendly support given.

After hearing about the experiences of someone who had a WM series machine back to Warco for repair to the tune of £200 plus after just over 12 months , I decided against it and cancelled....
Got my eye on a Chester machine now...£3k with all the toys.....DRO/qctp/coolant system.... etc......hmmmmm nice...just need to find room. :scratch:
