Title: Disassembling a 4 jaw indépendant chuck ... how?
Post by: Eugene on June 12, 2018, 03:01:49 PM
I have  four jaw independent chuck I'd like to resurrect.

It came with a job lot of Myford M Type tools that apart from being covered in chicken poop and diesel tractor exhaust fallout were in pretty fair mechanical nick. The four jaw is an exception; it's been in a fight and lost. All the jaw screws have broken threads and a couple have split square sockets too. I think the rest of it is OK, so it just needs four new jaw screws. It'd be fun trying to make them; I'm a bit more confident now with cutter grinding and threading.

Question ... how to get the existing screw set out? Pic as below.

The four plug / retainers that hold the screws in have blank faces ( like me at present) and I'm stumped as to how to remove them; the chuck is a one piece casting and there isn't anything to be seen from the front face. I think they are probably a press fit, but I'm open to offers.

Thanks in advance,

Eug

Usually you remove the jaws and lift the screws straight up then wiggle them out , the pressed in bits are for the recess in the screws .
