Title: Air pistol laser upgrade.
Post by: Divided he ad on January 18, 2013, 06:52:40 PM
This is a bit of an old one, originally finished a few years ago and just recently put a new laser on it after the original one died.

Not the best pictures and none of it stripped.
(sorry for the big uns... CTRL and + and - will toggle screen zoom in and out)

But, here's what I do got.....

First I had to make a rail to attach the carrier to, I made this by measuring the laser mounting and angles and carving it from a bit of aluminium.

This was attached to the underside of the barrel with 2 M6 hex head bolts through from the top. The pin in the front of the barrel was knocked out and the needed holes drilled through the barrel.

The laser then simply mounted under the barrel.

The laser came with 2 different switch options.  1/ a button that allowed momentary function or when the cap was twisted it is full on.

and 2/ a cap with a lead extending to a rubber pad with 4 little switches inside, press any one and the laser worked.

I didn't want option 1 cause of it's permanent laser on. Battery drain and blinding people while you re-load etc.

And the rubber pad was annoyingly awkward to use. So. I modded it!

I removed the pad from the end of the wire, drilled a hole through the handle to the inside (no magazine ... made this doable)

I de-soldered one of the little switches and attached it to the end of the cable. I marked a point where it would fit and measured the depth of the switch total height and when depressed. The slot was cut to allow the switch to sit proud.

The pencil marks for my drilling/recess.

A piece of insulation tape is used to keep the switch contacts from the gun body. it was later glued into position on top of the tape.

The grip was modified too, I opened up the screw holes and made brass sleeves to fit them. the top one allows the screw to tighten the grip almost fully down.

The bottom one holds the sleeve tight and allows the grip to move ~1mm.
This was found to be too sensitive and the laser came on with almost no pressure.

So an O ring was fitted around the sleeve and allows for a harder pressure before the laser activates.

So that's it... A super green laser that shoots further than my pistol!

A little more pressure on the 3 fingers on the grip and you're in business  :)

I like that, Ralph!

Sold my final HW45, only last year.

I'd bought the "stainless" version via mail order, and I hated it, from day one.
It was silver, paint!   (http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/confused/confused-28.gif) (http://freesmileyface.net/free-confused-smileys.html)    A horrible finish, after the black version.......

Accurate though, once the sights were blacked.

Thanks gents,

Tried not to ruin the gun as it cost me quite a few bob at the time! Great now the new laser is on it. pretty accurate too.

I'll have to try and make a little film of it operating. Just for fun  :)

David... Silver paint!!!?? WTH? That's just wrong!  The black one looks better IMHO.
Might buy a .177 barrel for this too... only 30 notes!

That's a cool mod.

Nice job on the squeeze power!

Ralph, I could do with a couple of those to help out with my target rifles, if the competition rules allowed them. Iron sights seem to get more inaccurate as my age advances.

How is it zeroed in? Do the two scalloped-out rings with adjacent graduations adjust windage and azimuth?

Cheers Eric   Glad you like it... I'll do a video tonight if I can still stand (all day on the house!!)

Andy, it's a couple of little dials on the new one.... Like a telescopic sight. You can see them here....

A little video of the HW45 in action  :)

Probably best select the full screen doobri in the lower right corner of the video... Can't barely see the little one!

Nicely demonstrated Ralph!

Only ever used iron sights.

The close ups of the dot, remind me of early, learning days with Brownings. "It must be jam. Jelly don't shake like that".  :palm:

Anthony,

Glad you like it  :)  No moggy shootin' nor any other live beasties... Strictly targets for me.  Rarely squish anything unless the little buggers biting me!

David,

  I had an excuse for the distance shot. I was holding the camera/phone.  But the close up shooting was all steadied with the left hand!! A little shake isn't arf magnified a huge amount over the distances!

You can see how it is that you can miss so often using open sights. little quiver and you miss by 3 inches! Don't know how the Olympic guys do it?

I'm much better with the rifle or shot gun....Honest

Dave,

Same difference.... Metric cal. added due to being German made.

You can swap the barrels on these from .177 to .20 and .22... Very versatile model  :)

I suppose some will say I'm being picky because .22" = 5.588mm which is nearer to 5.6 than 5.5. So I have always wondered why didn't they use 5.6?
