Title: Did make a find. =)
Post by: NeoTech on March 30, 2016, 02:45:39 AM
It's not often you get the opportunity to buy a large collection of tools for cheap. One of the really good ones was this

A 125mm, 16 insert cutter on a ISO40 driver. No fricking idea if my new mill can handle this.

On top of that like 50-60 large diameter machine taps in metric and imperial sizes.. will sure come handy. =)

Do you have spare inserts for that facemill? They look very similar to some that I have got.

Nice find, even if that massive ripper needs to go on eBay. :)

Those 45 degree square insert face mills are my favorite for removing stock.  Even on a machine with rigidity issues they usually run smooth and can be pushed pretty hard.  The chips are nice to deal with too; not friggin' razor sharp and tightly curled if you get your feeds/speeds right.

The round insert ones are nice too, but I still prefer the square.

Yeah I have 2 sets of extra inserts, it's SNMK insert, square  ones without holes in the middle. =)

NeoTech,

Way back when I was using a SAJO 53 UF mill at Chalmers University we had a very similar facemill to your 16-bit one. Ours was a 12-bit and the SAJO with 4HP didn't have any problems with that.

So I guess that if you don't take overly large cuts your 16-bit facemill will work on your mill as well It leaves a very nice surface afterwards!

Nice

I've a 7 tooth maydown one running on a 2hp mill and finish is good .Only tried small depth of cut, effectively a multi-toothed fly cutter but it works! :med:
