Just got a link to this story:

Pretty sure, scopes of that time were build differently and also men who washed them.

Thanks Pekka, just finished loading the dishwasher with all my IT gear, should be shiny and new in about 30 mins..... I'm told it's really good for doing pots, so the Hifi gear and Hameg will really benefit.

All that stuff that goes into dishwasher.....some of it must be an urban legend

I used to wash Cola and sugar-laced coffee out of Univac 1700 series keypunch keyboards with hot water in the bath tub. A bit of compressed air to dry it out and good as new.

We regularly used to put keyboards through the dish washer - when they failed that was the first thing we did. They HAD to come out before 'dry heat' cycle or the plastic would distort. They then were left open to dry for a week. A good 95% of faults were cleared this way, and there's no better way of cleaning keytops !
Essential though to pull them before the dry cycle, then let them dry naturally over several days.
