Title: New member tom37 first time posting. So a little about me.
Post by: tom37 on January 07, 2016, 09:39:05 PM
Location Santa Clara, Utah USA. First had an interest in live steam at about age 8 or 9 now at 80+. Have time and money, but no get up and go.  Still I read on here and home shop machinist. Just an idea about metal printing: if you have mig printer (i.e. welder), 3 axis cmc mill and a little scrap metal then you have enough for a trail at metal printing.  I don't have the mill or welder to try it.
But any that wants to ifree to do so, no strings attached.  Tom

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the mad mob. Your post should get some adventurous souls thinking at least. Seems to me that there would be considerable head scratching done relating to current control along with the different axis of movement. I have neither the MIG nor CNC mill either but fun to ponder.

Welcome regarding your idea the biggest problem I suspect would be distortion even with very low power settings

Welcome, your metal 3d printer sounds an interesting concept will be good to see if it can be made to work.

Welcome Tom

Do I not recall that some engineering students built a complete span of a bridge using the MIG / 3D printer approach. Not easy to google at the moment as I'm on my iPad but later I'll see if I can find a link.

Hi All.  Thanks for the welcome. I don't post very often. I do a lot of reading though.
For a shop a have part of a narrow 2 car garage and it seems to be on the crowed side.
