Tools / Re: Knurling

I don't think it matters which way around the knurls are.

I start with the knurl quite loose to establish a bit of a pattern and then tighten the clamp up to make the pattern deeper.  The clamp has to be properly on top and bottom of the work otherwise it'll be pushed away from the work.  Oil helps.  Some people say you have to get the diameter right so there's an exact number of knurl patterns.  I haven't found that to be the case.

Tools / Knurling

I made a couple of knurled knobs but when knurling them I couldn’t get a very nice knurl , I couldn’t get knurling very deep and it was better on both outer edges but the middle of the knurl was rubbish , I have a scissors type tool in the rear tool post on my Myford 10, the shorter one I am very happy with and was done some time ago from the front but the longer one I made today using same tool but from the rear, I thought maybe the knurles were the wrong way round so turned then over but I didn’t try moving bottom one up top and top on bottom could that be the problem?

Hello Folks,
I am back on the Holbrook and feeling much better, thanks to all the well wishers, really appreciate your concern!
Week two (or rather three days) of work on the Holbrook lathe some bits arrive, and we find signs of tailstock abuse, but as usual it is press on and fix them all!

Heat and especially direct sun kills anything and everything.

Sails on sailboats last about 2 years, charter, here in Spain.
And 10Y+ -- forever in the UK, partly due to being covered and or not in use part of the time.

Air-con units in Roatan, Honduras, last about 6 months, due to the heat and sunshine.
According to the guy who knows, and operates, lots of them, when I was there ..

I loved his episodes about that beast.  I've got a feeling that there was a little more negotiation with SWMBO than was shown in the first episode when he asked if he could buy it.

KBC Tools have a branch in Toronto https://www.kbctools.ca/company/our-locations

Tools aren't the obvious thing to buy when in Canada. Carriage into the country takes ages and costs a bomb, while the customs and carriers help themselves freely to passing goods. That is reflected in prices there, even if you buy from an importer rather import yourself.

I used KBC myself a few times when I lived in Vancouver but TBH, most/much of their stuff was Chinese / Indian / mid-range US stuff and not particularly well priced at that. If you must buy stuff over there, Busybee may be another option - they seem to be a Canadian sister to Grizzly in the US. https://www.busybeetools.com/categories/Metalworking/ They have a few branches near and east of Toronto.

To my mind, they are both in a similar boat to RDG Tools, Chronos and Machine Mart over here. My preference in the UK is the likes of Cutwel, APT Tools etc, ie better quality, often at similar prices, particularly if you can hold off until there is an offer on what you want. I tried to order from Cutwel when I was over there but their franchises wouldn't allow them to supply to customers outside of their UK / Ireland sales area.
