Title: Made my shop a bit smaller...
Post by: one_rod on June 10, 2014, 05:45:16 PM
And am I pleased about it.

How so?

Well, this two and a half foot extension on the end of the building has been the bane of my life ever since I've had the place. As well as being tragically ugly, the way it meets the adjoining building means it's impossible to seal the roof.

In our climate that means it's permanently wet. The roof timbers have rotted and the doorframe has collapsed, so the doors have been barred and screwed shut for years.

Finally got around to making myself a new set of heavy-duty steel doors and knocking down the old extension. Still a bit of sealing around the frame to do and  the rest of the bolts to go in the hinge straps. The brickwork needs a coat of masonry paint too, but the heavy work's done.
Lost me a little space, but made the place a lot dryer, more secure and I can actually open the doors now.

Hard work, but yep, pretty pleased with it.

Great Doors One-Rod.
But put a canopy over the doors, or you will get blown rain over the top of the opening.
I find the 6 or 8 inch plastic fascia boards fine for this, angle them out with wood, and seal the top with bath calk.
Regards
Trev

That looks much better.

I can't really tell from the photo, but if the bricks are intact you might be able to remove the old cement with acid and save having to paint.
