Title: 4" SCC Burrell Traction Engine.
Post by: Zadig on April 13, 2015, 06:30:59 AM
I've been posting the build of this engine for a few years now, so for anyone interested and continuity, the build can be found here:

http://www.alloyavenue.com/vb/showthread.php?5847-Burrell-4-quot-Single-Crank-Compound-Agricultural-Engine

To make a start on the final leg, here are some pictures of the ashpan construction.

Hi there, Zadig,

I like the idea of combining the folder with the press - it must save a lot of workshop floor-space.

Is your press hand-operated or does it have a motorised hydraulic pump (i.e. like Keith Fenner's press)?

Cheers for the recommendation Joe, it's good to be here.

Thanks Pete,

No, I have the poverty model whereby you have to pump it by hand. I'll post more pics of the press brake over the next few days.

Nice bit of kit. Is the press brake part home brew or purchased?

That brake sure does a nice neat job.  Are the joints now welded, or mechanically fastened?

Thanks Joe. I'll TIG it all together at the end. I still have to incorporate the grate as well as the fixtures that hold it up to the firebox - I'm working on these at the moment.

  Nice going Mike ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, did you cheat by having the sheet material laser cut

I do like the break attachment , that something I still have to make for my press  :dremel:

Yes they were laser cut. Fundamentally, I'm a lazy person so I'll always cheat when I can.

There are some pics of the brake build on the other forum linked to at the top. Lord knows where in the thread it is at but it is nearer the end than the beginning.

My easy way is to follow Zadig and do what he does, the problem  is sometimes
I realise his thinking is on a different level to mine and I struggle.  He promised me an
ashpan and then moved to MadModders but now I've found him.  Zadig where are you ?
