Title: Adding Functionality to Atlas 618 Lathe
Post by: Topos on April 30, 2012, 05:39:39 PM
Problem: how to compensate that 618 does not have a long cross slide to,
for instance, allow parting from the back of the lathe.

Out of nowhere,  elaborating  on the difficult concept of reversing the cross slide
and then returning it back, etc., I wondered if I could remove the cover on my
cross slide and insert in reverse another cross slide. Face to face cross slides.   :bugeye:

Overcoming overwhelming doubt I purchased another cross slide and mount it touching the
original. Voila. I had a 'long' cross slide with two places to attach
a compound, milling attachement, flat plate, etc.

And cranking the cross slide away from me simultaneously moved the partner away:
only thing missing is the playing of a Tango at the 'slide dance'.   [ I have no way to post pictures
as I abhor the uploading sites on which I loose control. ].
